Adding cottage character to your home is quite simple.
Here are a few ideas for you!
1~Add slip covered furniture. You can buy them already made or make your own out of affordable canvas fabric.
2~Add wainscoting. Paint it any soothing color.
2~Add wainscoting. Paint it any soothing color. floral fabric, or custom finials for instant cottage appeal!
4~Hardwood floors. Refinish old ones or add new. You can even buy faux hardwood floors made to look old called "hand scraped"

5~Add vintage glass or porcelain knobs to new
furniture for an instant cottage update!
6~Claw foot bathtubs. You can find these relatively inexpensive in need of a paint job, or refinished for you! They are heavy, gorgeous, and functional!

7~Chandeliers add instant romance to any room, not just the bedroom. Tuck a small one in a closet, or bathroom, even a kitchen, and you will have gorgeous light!

9~Baskets, old or new add instant cottage character. Use them to hold books, kindling, even toilet paper in the loo!

Well friends, that's all for now, off to try and make my house look pretty for the boutique on Friday! Hope you all are having a wonderful day!

I don't think I've ever seen bead board in black! It looks really pretty. And I'm in love with that mirror headboard. So pretty. But I'd be afraid of it falling on me in the middle of the night :)
This post is PERFECT!! I'm excited to read these ideas. Thank you muchly. ;)

Melanie, What great ideas to add cottage character. I love the chandelier idea. They speak to me.
I wanted to tell you how much I love Savannah! I was there for the historic home and garden tour in March. I am planning to come back this year too, the last week in March. And I am bringing a large group of fabulous women with me. For me, Savannah was like finding "the Mothership"!!!! If it wern't for the humidity and extreme heat in the summer, I would convince my husband to move us there. I love everything about Savannah (except for the above mentioned... and from what I've been told the gnats!)!!!
I bet Christmas is beautiful there.
Please post about your wonderful city, and let me live vicariously through you.

Love the beadboard in black. I'd love for you to take a look at our finished kitchen. I used tons of pictures you posted as inspiration for this lovely cottage kitchen.
