~feeling like Spring~

Nothing says Spring to me like the bright turquoise flowers in these drapes.
Paired with this wonderful chippy bench & squishy pillows, I could move right in quite happily. Rain has been coming down non stop and the forecast calls for rain the rest of the week, and into next week.
My tulips are getting trampled to death, and I just want some sun!
Is that too much to ask for?
How were those cookies?
Did you try them?
Happy Thursday!

~please forgive me~

I am about to share with you the worlds most fattening delicious recipe ever.
I have put on a few pounds in the last few
months due to recipes just like this.
I figure if my pants are getting tight,
I might as well drag you down with me.
I'm just nice like that.
Are you ready? What says yummy more than oreo stuffed chocolate chip cookies?
Your speechless aren't you?
Photo from Heidi Claire.
I know you are probably all trying to eat healthy, with summer right around the corner and all, so I'm sorry, I just couldn't help but share.
If you make them, please let me know how many pounds you gain so I don't feel like the only loser
how you like them.
And please tell me you didn't only eat one.
Then, I will just have to hate you.

~goodwill hunting~

One of my favorite ways to spend the day is to go thrifting.
There is nothing like finding a treasure for next to nothing.
Yesterday I spent 7 hours driving from thrift store to thrift store, and I came home with some great finds. Some I will keep, some I will sell.
The first place I hit when I go to these stores is the home section. I look at the furniture, the lamps, the linens and the accessories, in that order, really.
Don't ask me why.
Recently I discovered that goodwill has a blog!
They have contributors that share ideas on turning trash into treasures.
Like this trunk above for example.
I see these all the time at thrift stores.
Look how fabulous it looks in this bedroom and think of all the extra storage!
Tea cups are a dime a dozen as well.
You can organize your jewelry in a drawer like shown here, or stock up for a little girls tea party.
I like to use old ashtrays for my jewelry storage.
I know that sounds weird, but I collect white milk glass ashtrays.
{and truth be told, they don't look like ashtrays, more like cute little bowls that are the perfect size for rings and earrings}
I like how how this photo shows one being used for car keys.
And, thrift stores are a great resource for old books!
I always look for old sheet music, children's books with old graphics, and antique books for decorative purposes.
Framing book pages is a clever, inexpensive way for instant unique wall art.
 My next mission:
~to start a collection of old globes~
Love them and how they look when grouped together.
I go thrifting one to two times a week, sometimes more.
My kids are at the age where it is "not cool" anymore, so I usually go while they are at school.
My husband won't go with me either.
He said those places smell bad.
Whatever.
Good thing I have friends that share my passion.
all photos courtesy of wow goodwill.

~a quickie project~

Sorry about yesterday's post.
I guess blogger was having trouble uploading pictures.
I wanted to share with you this quick and easy project I did in about 5 minutes!
I found this old cupboard door at a garage sale and it already had the perfect chippy pale blue paint~I didn't have to do a thing to it, except clean the dirt off.
I then added a stencil with black paint and sanded it down lightly.
I get all my stencils from this etsy seller.
That was it!
Now I just have to find a spot for it!

~I'm back and I have a project for you!~

Hello!
I tried to write this post a few minutes ago and my photos weren't showing up, so trying again....
I first wanted to thank all of you that sent me emails and left me comments regarding my "time off"
It's really nice to know that prayers were being sent out from all over.
Now, onto this little project!
My friend and I were driving down the road the other day and talking about these free canvas'.
My friend came up with the idea to order them and then when they arrive to embellish them with glitter, bling, or just about anything.
I thought this was genius, and immediately made me think of my friend Rhonda Addison's gorgeous artwork.

So, the first thing I did was hop on the Graphics Fairy blog.
She has endless vintage photos that would work great for this project.
I saved the images to my computer and then downloaded them to canvas people.
I can't wait till they arrive so I can start embellishing them.
I am going to add some faint color to the black and white ones....
and little bits of glass glitter to the others.

Now, I am off to go order more while this FREE offer still stands!

~taking some personal days~

Most of the time life is great.
But when someone you love is hurting you must take the time to be with them and support them as best you can.
I will be taking a few days off from blogging and I hope you understand.

~do you see the similarities?~

Yesterday I was at one of my favorite stores~the dollar tree, when I came across this fabulous contact paper. While I was lining my kitchen drawers the thought came to me.....
This paper looks a lot like Lauren Leiss'
wallpaper in her kitchen niche! Do you see the similarities?
Now, what else should I do with this fabulous roll of gorgeous flowers for a buck?
Wallpaper something?
 Hum, we'll see.

~botanical project reveal~

Well, here it is.
The polished pebble botanical project reveal.
It was a challenge to find out how to frame 8 of these beauties for under $20.
I found these wonderful green vintage looking frames at a local craft shop for $5 a piece.
And then I had a 50% off coupon.
So, there you have it, $20.00. I didn't have enough money left in the budget for matting, so I went ahead and just taped the prints to white paper.
I actually prefer this look as opposed to matting them.
I think matting would detract from the beauty and uniqueness of the pages themselves.

Someone put a lot of time into each one of these pages.

The frames themselves have a wonderful patina. They are a great green color
{one of my favorite colors}
with touches of gold and cream.

I decided to hang them in my makeshift mudroom area.
The color of the frames go great with the cushion on the bench.
Three of them are along the back wall and then a couple more "wrap" each side of the bench.
It was hard to get a photo of it all~sorry.

I just love how they turned out.
Don't forget to check out these blogs to see what they have done with theirs.
I love seeing all the different projects and everyones personal take on them!
Thank you Kelley for including me on this fun project, I really do feel honored.
You have become a great friend.
Now, go check these out!

~St. Patrick's Day Menu~

Today is my husbands birthday.
We have plans tonight so we celebrated last night with family and friends who all came over for dinner.
I thought I'd share the menu as it was a tasty one!
We started the pork on the traeger at 6 am and smoked it for 12 hours.
The avocado fries were delicious.
The recipe came from here.
The coleslaw recipe was from here.
I also served green grapes in keeping with the "green" theme,
as well as veggie appetizers such as cucumber
and zucchini slices, green peppers, celery, etc.
All green of course!
For the adults:
Key lime pie and devonshire pudding.
I cheated and bought the pie, but I did make the devonshire pudding.
It was my sister in law Debbie's recipe.
For the kids:
Lime jello and shamrock cookies.
It was a really fun night getting together with everyone.
Today I am off to go junking with a couple friends.
It should be a good day!
I hope you all are having one as well!

~a project with friends & a winner~

My friend Kelley contacted me a little while ago with a really fun project.
She had found 3 old Herbarium books,
full of plant pressings and descriptions.
The entries date from 1893~1898.
~wow~

She asked me,

Artie of color outside the lines

and

Andrea of faded plains

if we were up to a little challenge.

{and of course, Kelley is participating too!}

She sent us each 4 pressings and descriptions
and asked us all to come up with a way to frame these for under $20.
Hum, I wonder if I can do it.
{all photos from Kelley at the polished pebble}
I'm a little nervous, I am up against some seriously talented bloggers!
Come back on Thursday the 18th to see the results.
And, the winner of the $50 gift card giveaway is...........
Congratulations!
xoxo
Also, a reminder that you can still get your free custom 8x10 canvas, no strings attached!

~drummer boy~ {or girl}

A trend that I am loving lately is drum shades, especially drum pendant lighting
I love this oversized one from Country Living. This is a repeat photo but I love how simple this drum pendant is.
Photo from inspiratodesign.

This one is very sleek.

I could picture it over a bed in the master bedroom or over a dining table.
Love it!
Found here.

Here is one that is a little more whimsical.
I just love the simplicity of pendant lighting, especially the drum pendant options.
Photo from living etc.

I found a variety of great pendant lighting here, as well as many other reasonably priced lighting options, and thought I'd share.
Hope you are having a great day!
I will announce the winner of the $50 gift card giveaway tomorrow!

~interior infatuation~

If I lived anywhere near Charlottesville Virginia, I would be knocking
on your door asking for a tour.
Lucky for you, I am way far away and will be admiring your lovely home via my computer in my own kitchen.
{good thing too because I may have to steal your dog as well}
Thanks for letting us all in, even though it's not in person!
Yours truly~My Sweet Savannah
